Mortimer first made an appearance on the screen in 1996 with the action-packed historical film The Ghost and the Darkness and the film about coming-of-age called The Last of the High Kings. Her roles included The Saint, the biographical dramaElizabeth and also in the romantic comedy Notting Hill. In 2000, Mortimer's biggest movie season to date was when she appeared in four films in the horror sequel Scream 3, which was Kenneth Branagh's musical version of the film Love's Labour's Lost (Love's Labour's Lost) and the fantasy drama The Kid, and in the animated film Miracle Maker where she voiced Mary of Nazareth.
